Sod specifications as defined by T.P.I. (Turfgrass Producers International)
- The identity of the seed or mixture must be indicated, along with whether it is certified or not.
- The thickness of the soil must be 2 cm, without measuring the leaf surface.
- The cutting height, during delivery must be 3-4 cm for the cold season varieties and 1.5 – 2 cm for the warm season ones.
- Sod age must not be less than 1 year old.
- The size of each strip can vary.
- The turf must be healthy, treated against fungal diseases.
- There must be no weeds.
- The turf must be dense, so when the turf is cut 40 mm height, the soil remains invisible.
- The weight of each roll must be approximately 17-20 kg.
- The soil moisture must be balanced.
- The subsoil must be sandy, thus allowing for immediate and deep rooting after the installation of the turf.
- Lastly, the strip’s strength must be such, that it will not be torn when closed.
